Tax tracking that actually
makes sense

If you sell on Etsy in the UK, HMRC wants to know about it. But working out what you owe — or whether you even need to file — can feel like a full-time job on top of actually running your shop.

The UK Etsy Tax Tracker is a single HTML file that runs in your browser. There's nothing to install, no cloud account to sign up for, and your data never leaves your computer.

Just drop in your Etsy monthly statement CSVs, add any business expenses and mileage, and the tracker does the rest — including a ready-to-use HMRC Self Assessment summary with all the numbers you need.

You can also attach a photo or PDF of your receipt to each expense entry — stored inside the file itself, no cloud required. HMRC recommends keeping receipts for 5 years after filing, and this makes that completely painless.

It's free to download and try. If you find it useful, a one-off £5 registration unlocks the full version. That's it — no annual fees, ever.

💡 Designed for Etsy sellers, not accountants

Plain English throughout. No jargon. Built by someone who knows what it's like to stare at an Etsy CSV and not know where to start.

🔒 Your data stays with you

No cloud sync, no servers, no logins. Your financial data lives in the file on your own computer — nowhere else.

💰 Genuinely good value

A one-off fiver for a whole tax year of tracking. No monthly fee that makes you question whether you need it.

Everything you need,
nothing you don't

Covers the full picture — from importing your Etsy data right through to a completed HMRC summary, ready to copy across.

📥

CSV Import

Drop in your monthly Etsy statement CSVs one at a time. The tracker handles deduplication and even splits statements that straddle the April tax year boundary automatically.

📊

Dashboard & Charts

See your gross sales, Etsy fees, net profit and monthly trends at a glance. Bar charts, running totals, and a clear monthly breakdown — all updated live as you import data.

💳

Expense Tracking & Receipt Storage

Log business expenses by category — packaging, equipment, software, whatever applies to your shop. Attach a photo or PDF of your receipt to each entry and it's stored inside the file alongside your data. Searchable and filterable, with quick-select options to save time.

Mileage Log

Record business journeys and the tracker applies the correct HMRC simplified rate (45p/mile up to 10,000, 25p after). Running total with automatic threshold alert.

📋

HMRC Self Assessment Summary

A complete, ready-to-submit summary — gross income, allowable expenses, mileage, taxable profit (via actual expenses or Trading Allowance), and a reminder of what needs declaring.

💾

Saves Inside the File

Click Save File and your data is written back into the HTML file itself. No external database. Copy it to a USB stick, back it up to your NAS — it's just a file.

📅

Transaction Browser

View, filter and sort every imported transaction. Filter by type — sales, refunds, fees — with a search box for drilling into specific entries.

Backup & Restore

Export a full JSON backup at any time, or a separate expenses & mileage backup that can safely be restored into an updated version of the tracker.

⚖️

Trading Allowance Check

Automatically tells you whether your gross income is under the £1,000 Trading Allowance — and if over, whether claiming actual expenses or the allowance gives you the better result.

From download to
Self Assessment in minutes
1

Download the tracker for your tax year

Choose the version for the tax year you're working on — 2025/26 or 2026/27. It's a single HTML file. Save it anywhere — your desktop, Dropbox, a USB stick. No installation needed.

2

Import your Etsy monthly statement CSVs

In Etsy, go to Finances → Payment Account → Monthly statements and download each month as a CSV. Drop them into the tracker one at a time — it handles April boundary splits and duplicate detection for you.

3

Add your expenses and mileage

Log any business expenses (packaging, equipment, subscriptions, etc.) and business journeys throughout the year. Quick-select options make repeat entries fast.

4

Hit Save File to preserve your data

Click 💾 Save File in the nav bar after any changes. Your data is saved back into the HTML file itself — just replace the original with the downloaded copy. Simple.

5

Check the HMRC Summary tab come tax return time

Everything you need for your Self Assessment return is there — gross income, allowable deductions, taxable profit, and whether the Trading Allowance is worth claiming instead.

Pick your tax year

Each version is pre-configured for that tax year's rates, thresholds, and allowances. Both versions are otherwise identical in features.

Questions? Here are the
most common ones
Is the free version actually usable, or just a teaser?
Fully usable. Every feature works in the free version — the only difference is a 10-second nag screen when you open the file. You can use it all year without registering. The £5 is to remove that nag screen and support further development, not to unlock hidden features.
Do I need to be online to use it?
No. The tracker is a self-contained HTML file that runs entirely in your browser. Once downloaded, it works completely offline. Your registration code also validates offline — there's no phone-home, no licence server, nothing like that.
Where does my data go?
Nowhere except your own computer. The tracker stores data inside the HTML file itself when you click Save File. There are no servers, no cloud sync, and no external connections. Your financial data stays entirely under your control.
I sell on Etsy but I also have other income. Does this cover everything?
The tracker focuses specifically on your Etsy self-employment income. It gives you all the figures you need to complete the self-employment section of your Self Assessment return. Other income sources (employment, savings, etc.) are separate and you'd handle those in the usual way on the HMRC portal.
What if I need both tax year versions?
They're separate files — one for 2025/26 and one for 2026/27. Registration is per version, so registering both would be £10 total. That said, both are fully free to try, so you can download whichever you need first and see how you get on.
What counts as the Trading Allowance, and how does the tracker handle it?
The HMRC Trading Allowance is a £1,000 tax-free allowance for self-employment income. If your gross Etsy income is under £1,000, you may not need to declare it at all. If it's over, the HMRC Summary tab shows you your taxable profit both ways — using actual expenses, and using the £1,000 allowance — so you can pick whichever gives you the lower tax bill.
I'm not very tech-savvy — will I be able to use this?
Yes — that's exactly who it's built for. If you can open a file in a web browser and drag and drop things, you're good. There's nothing to install, configure, or maintain. The language throughout is plain English, and I'm always happy to help via email if you get stuck.
How do I get my Etsy statements to import?
In Etsy, go to Finances → Payment Account → Monthly statements and download each month as a CSV file. Then just drop that file into the Import tab in the tracker. Simple as that — the tracker knows how Etsy formats its CSVs and handles everything else automatically.
